People may burn organic material from their gardens if they live outside of built-up areas. You must notify the fire department (5150-2200) and you must ensure the following: 1) You have water ready to put out the fire. 2) You burn only dry organic material, and 3) you extinguish the fire before sunset. As a test to determine if you live in a built-up area, determine whether the smoke can cause problems for more than three neighbors. If yes, then your area is too built up for an open fire. The use of BBQ grills, fireplaces, and fire pits in your garden is ok as long as it is controlled and safe. If you re uncertain about these rules, you may contact the fire department at 5150-2200. |
