Fire Restrictions: There is a general prohibition against the use of open fire in forests and fields/mountains from 15 April to 15 September. If you are hiking up in the mountains and need to heat water in order to prepare meals or make coffee, you may use a burner if you are certain that it will not cause a fire. This means that you must make sure that the use of a burner will not cause a fire (no burnable vegetation if the burner tilts/falls over). You must make sure that you have water available to extinguish any flames. If you cause a fire, you will have to compensate the land owvers and pay any costs associated with fighting the fire.

People may burn organic material from their gardens if they live outside of built-up areas. You must notify the fire department (5150-2200) and you must ensure the following: 1) You have water ready to put out the fire. 2) You burn only dry organic material, and 3) you extinguish the fire before sunset. As a test to determine if you live in a built-up area, determine whether the smoke can cause problems for more than three neighbors. If yes, then your area is too built up for an open fire.

The use of BBQ grills, fireplaces, and fire pits in your garden is ok as long as it is controlled and safe.
